I had a fantastic week with Julia on the intensive level 1 and 2 course. The facilities were great. Julia is a guru. Her knowledge and skill is immense. It was great working at my own pace (I liked the constant progress and development) but if I needed more time that was fine too. I’m already putting my new skills into practice. Thank you so much it was a totally indulgent week.

I have just completed the 6 day intensive Level 1 & Level 2 Art Clay Diploma with Julia Rai at the Cornwall School of Art, Craft and Jewellery and I have to say it was fabulous. Julia was amazing – very knowledgeable, informative and overall helpful throughout the six days. I had done a single day taster class at Metal Clay about a year before and have been studying YouTube and many other online resources/books since, so I went into this course with some basics and a little practice. However, I learnt so much more through these six days – there is really no substitute for having someone show you how it’s all done. That said, it is intensive as there’s so much to learn and the pressure is on you to complete all the pieces to be assessed as best you can within the timescale. Julia led me through every technique and stage expertly and kept me on track throughout. I’m very happy to say that I passed and I’m very proud of the jewellery pieces I took away with me.
The facilities are excellent with all the tools and equipment needed, easy to get to with good access.
I will certainly be back for future courses with CSACJ!

Don’t dither, just book it! I cannot recommend this course highly enough – I’m so glad I did it.

I was nervous coming into the classroom on my first day, but Julia has a way about her that could put anyone at ease. Looking back, I am amazed at how much I learnt over the six days, improving in both skills and confidence as the course progressed. Don’t get me wrong, I made mistakes, plenty of them, but with Julia (and her wealth of experience) sat beside me all the way, I was shown how to correct things and that was the best gift of all. Working one-on-one with Julia, getting a real instinct for the clay in all its states, was invaluable. And, I mustn’t underestimate the incidental things I picked up along the way, like effective drying of the clay, clay shrinkage, clay reconstitution, good work area skills, proper kiln use, etc., all of which added such a lot to the depth of knowledge and confidence I walked away with.
I left the course after the six days fizzing with ideas, faith in my skills to carry them out (+ repair my inevitable mistakes!), and having greatly enjoyed the company of an immensely talented artist. It was a privilege Julia, thank you.

  8. Sarah

Have done and passed my Level 1 & 2 diploma in metal clay, with Julia. She’s an amazing teacher and lovely lady. If you are thinking about doing a course with her, just do it you will not be disappointed. Thank you so much for an amazing 6 days with you, I’ve loved every minute of it xxx

  9. Kirsty

I Did my Art clay diplomas (level 1&2) with Julia. She is a fabulous teacher, a jewel box full of precious nuggets of information with years of experience, the patience of a saint and a personality that sparkles like the diamond she is.

I chose to do my classes as a one to one as I have some medical problems and mobility issues. Julia was very happy to accommodate me and tailored the classes around my needs, her workshop is fully wheelchair accessible and easy to get to.
I would recommend the CSoACJ to anyone looking to do their diplomas or any of the other workshops. The quality of tuition is above exceptional and I am looking forward to going back and doing many more classes as soon as I can.
