This class is suitable for people with some experience working with metal clay. If you’ve attended our Beginners Metal Clay class, you’ll be fine on this one. You’ll be guided through every step by Julia Rai, an experienced metal clay tutor and we guarantee you’ll come out with some great rings.
This one day class will introduce you to working with silver clay shrinkage so you can accurately size your metal clay rings. You’ll start with a round profile ring topped with a moulded element. You’ll progress onto a flat profile ring which you can embellish any way you like, maybe with a fire in place stone, syringe or cut out elements.
What skills will you learn?
During the day, you’ll learn the following skills:-
- Rolling out even snakes of clay
- Texturing the clay
- Sizing for shrinkage
- Preparing the ring mandrel
- Using moulds to make elements
- Joining metal clay seamlessly
- Embellishment and stone setting
- Drying and refining your work
- Firing the pieces using a kiln
- Polishing and finishing your work
Julia will help you to create two beautiful fine silver metal clay rings in a day. All the equipment you need will be provided. There is no pressure and Julia will work with you to ensure you achieve your goals for the day. By the end of the day you’ll have enough knowledge and confidence to create unique metal clay rings at your own kitchen table!
How much silver clay is included in the price?
The course cost includes enough silver metal clay to create the two basic rings plus a choice of cubic zirconia stone to embed. You can buy additional metal clay or stones on the day or bring your own if you’d prefer (PMC3 or Art Clay Silver only).
