Description

This one day private intermediate level jewellery making class will allow you to learn how to make silver metal clay rings. The approach is relaxed and at a pace to suit you so you’ll enjoy learning this new skill. You’ll also learn to embellish your metal clay rings using syringe, a fireable faceted stone or cut out technique. You’ll be shown how to make two different types of ring so you can take them home to show everyone how well you did!

This is one of our silver jewellery making courses designed to help more experienced metal clay artists like you to develop your skills in working with silver clay. You may also like our two day intermediate metal clay course or our two day advanced metal clay course.

How to Book a Private Silver Metal Clay Rings Class

This class can be booked to run at a time that’s convenient to you and our principle tutor Julia RaiContact the school before booking travel or accommodation to ensure that the dates you’d like to do the class are available as Julia gets booked up very quickly. If you are flexible, you can book and pay for the class using our secure booking system and Julia will contact you to confirm the dates.

Class Outline

This silver clay class is suitable for people with some experience working with metal clay. If you’ve attended our Beginners Metal Clay class, you’ll be fine on this one. You’ll be guided through every step by Julia Rai, an experienced metal clay tutor. We guarantee you’ll come out with some great rings.

This one day private metal clay jewellery making workshop will introduce you to working with silver clay shrinkage so you can accurately size your metal clay rings. You’ll start by making a round profile ring topped with a moulded element. You’ll progress onto a flat profile ring which you can embellish any way you like. This may be with a fire in place stone, syringe or cut out elements.

What skills will you learn?

During the day, you’ll learn the following skills:-

  • Rolling out even snakes of clay
  • Texturing the clay
  • Sizing for shrinkage
  • Preparing the ring mandrel
  • Using moulds to make elements
  • Joining metal clay seamlessly
  • Embellishment and stone setting
  • Drying and refining your work
  • Firing the pieces using a kiln
  • Polishing and finishing your work

 

Julia will help you to create two beautiful fine silver metal clay rings in a day so you’ll go home with some lovely jewellery. All the equipment you need will be provided. There is no pressure and Julia will work with you to ensure you achieve your goals for the day. By the end of the day you’ll have enough knowledge and confidence to create unique metal clay rings at your own kitchen table!

How much silver clay is included in the price?

The cost of this jewellery making course includes enough silver metal clay to create the two basic rings plus a choice of cubic zirconia stone to embed. You can buy additional metal clay or stones on the day or bring your own if you’d prefer (PMC3 or Art Clay Silver only).
